Last weekend, we proudly welcomed 83 nursing students and nurse leaders into Sigma’s Xi‑Kappa‑at‑Large Chapter. We also recognize this year’s Xi-Kappa scholarship recipients: Brenna Held (University of Jamestown), Hannah Hynek (University of Jamestown), Abigayle Johnson (NDSU Bismarck), Jill Johnson (NDSU Bismarck), and Andrew Rasmussen (NDSU Fargo), recipient of the Martha Vorvick Berge Scholarship. A special congratulations to Kolby Schaeffer (NDSU Fargo), recipient of the Excellence in Nursing Education Award. We are proud to celebrate your achievements and look forward to the impact you continue to make in nursing and in your communities.

As proud members of Sigma Theta Tau, we have demonstrated commitment to our community. This holiday season, the Xi-Kappa-at-Large chapter encourages you to continue our tradition of giving back. Volunteering is a wonderful way to spread joy and support those in need. You can donate food/gifts/clothing to shelters, volunteer your time at local food banks, or provide monetary donations to help feed families during the holiday. Whatever you choose, let's make this holiday season special for everyone in our community. Your generosity and kindness can bring warmth and happiness to those who need it most.

For spring 2024, the Xi-Kappa at Large chapter cordially invited you to enhance your professional development by participating in a live upcoming webinar or by accessing one of Sigma’s archived webinars here.
Students: We recommend the session titled “Exploring NCLEX Content with Test Strategies and Practice Questions.” This webinar is an excellent opportunity to improve your testing skills and gain a deeper understanding of the Next Generation NCLEX (NGN) before your examination. You can watch a previous recording or attend a live session on November 19th at 1100 EST.
Nurse Educators: You may find the archived webinar “Balancing Act: How to Support Students and Nurses for the Future of Healthcare” particularly beneficial. It shares important information to help students and nurses maintain well-being and develop professional relationships. 
Bedside Nurses: The webinar “Empowered Nursing: Balancing Staffing Challenges, Smart Delegation, and Professional Integrity?” explores the complex challenges around staffing, delegation, and maintaining professional integrity. You can attend the live session on November 5th, 2024 at 1000 EDT.
We encourage all Xi-Kappa members to take advantage of these opportunities to advance their knowledge and skills in the nursing field.
What is Sigma?
In 1922, six nurses founded Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, today known as Sigma, at the Indiana University Training School for Nurses, which is now the Indiana University School of Nursing, in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. The founders chose the name from the Greek words storgé, thárros, and timé, meaning love, courage, and honor. Membership

Membership is by invitation to baccalaureate and graduate nursing students who demonstrate excellence in scholarship and to nurse leaders who exhibit exceptional achievements in nursing. Sigma has more than 135,000 active members residing in more than 100 countries! There are roughly 540 chapters at more than 700 institutions of higher education and practice settings throughout the world. Xi-Kappa At Large is dedicated to providing a rewarding and unique professional development experience through Sigma membership.

  • Collaboration in Action!

    Carey Haugen and Collette Christoffers attended the Strengthening Healthcare Through Interprofessional Collaboration conference hosted by the North Dakota Nurses Association. This event brought together professionals from multiple disciplines to share knowledge and explore strategies to improve patient care outcomes. Attendees represented healthcare organizations across ND and western MN. In addition to participating in the conference, Haugen and Christoffers hosted an information table for Xi-Kappa at-Large, answering questions about membership, activities, and opportunities for professional development.
